JULY 2016 – CAMP IN PANCHHATAR (THE EAST OF NEPAL)

In the course of a short three week trip in the middle of the monsoon to sort out certain problems connected with the Maternity Center in Phaplu we were able to conduct a surgical camp in Panchhatar, to the East of Nepal.

This district is to the North of Ilam district, known for its tea gardens. These districts are close to Darjeeling, perhaps better known for its tea. These districts have the same type of very humid climate favourable to this type of crop.

The district hospital is at Phiddim. We had already held two camps there, in 2011 and 2012. After an in depth clean-up of the small operating block, hardly used and hardly maintained, we got to work. The demand was once again very high, no doubt thanks to a regular announcement on the local radio. We managed to carry out 82 operations in a little less than a week, and took advantage of this to transmit to the local medical personnel a maximum of information.

This camp at Phiddim was our 40th since the creation of the Mobile Hospital.
